Welcome Readers!

Welcome to the Mystic Blog of the only Mystic Nymph! I hope you have a blast reading my thoughts, and I hope you drop by again!

Marquee

I'll let you in a little revelation about my favorite usernames in my virtual sites. First is about my Mikimoto Angel pen name. Mikimoto is a famous brand of pearl accessories in America. I first saw that brand in Vogue Magazine. I got mesmerized by that label, and I thought of using it. I just added Angel from my name "Angela". Thus, the formation of Mikimoto Angel.

For my other pen name Mystic Nymph, the word mystic really came from the show Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog. I used to be so hooked to that show. I am also obsessed with mythologies, and nymphs are mythical creatures depicted as beautiful young women who are considered as guardians of objects and places in nature. Thus, the evolution of Mystic Nymph.

Child’s Play: Graduation Outfit

What I wore on Graduation Day:
Dress – Sabella RTW
Shoes – Mendrez
Bag – G by Guess
Bangle – SM Accessories
Earrings – Gift from Mom
Sablay (Sash) – Hablon

Everything that I wore that day (except for the bag) was Pinoy made -- from the dress, shoes, bangle and Sablay.

Here’s a quick post before I’ll have my hiatus again. It’ll just be a short-lived break anyway, since I’m going to be busy processing matters for my “job seeking escapade” this week. And oh, I will also be one of the facilitators for a Youth and Kids Camp organized by our church. The event will be held from the 17th to 19th of May. I pray that we nail it perfectly well, so we could be able to give the participants a summer that’s divine and worth-remembering.

Anyhow, this is another graduation post but this time it’s about what I wore. I don’t know with the graduates from other UP system units, but UP Mindanao graduates are required to wear beige or cream dress and shoes for girls; and beige barong and black pants and shoes for boys. The reason for wearing neutral colored garments is to lay emphasis on the symbolic Sablay. We’re not allowed to wear any other ostentatious accessories other than the latter stated.

I selected this ruffled neck chiffon dress with pagoda sleeves because it looks vintage and feminine. My dress is already very detailed, that’s why I decided to pair it with this simple 3-inch beige shoes. The catch is, we also needed to put on stockings and I hated it because its silkiness gave me a tough time walking. I didn’t know how to deal with it with flair considering I don’t normally wear high heels. Luckily, things folded quite nicely that day.

I wore the bangle and the bag only before and after the ceremony; because like what I’ve said earlier, we had to highlight the Sablay all throughout the program. What I love about my bangle from SM Accessories are the faux gold and diamond embellishments. I’m just totally in love with anything shiny, shimmery and golden. I also got thrilled when I saw Karylle (A Filipino celebrity) wearing the same arm candy in red hue in one episode of It’s ShowTime.

I was so happy with everything that I donned that day; because apart from The Sablay, nobody sported the same dress, shoes and accessories as I did. Basically, what we had to pull off for our graduation outfit is the fashion statement called “Pop of Print” to accentuate the thing every UP student yearns for. So, that’s it for now. I guess this ends my series of graduation posts. Take note of the phrase “I guess”. Just kidding. ‘Til then! Much love!

Hype this look in Lookbook.

Child’s Play: Something Casual

I attended the Pre-Employment Seminar at school yesterday to help us equip ourselves in handling job interviews and “power dressing”. It is also to prepare us for the Campus Recruitment today. If I have time, I will be sharing you some insights that I learned. San Miguel Brewery, Inc. had specifically requested to interview graduating students from BA Anthropology and of course, BA Communication Arts.

I feel so nervous, because this is going to be my first actual “job interview” experience; although I’ve already been in one when we had a mock interview for our Business and Corporate Communications Class two semesters ago. I hope these jitters won’t get me into trouble later at one. While writing this entry, my mind’s also busy thinking of what ensemble to put on. But anyway, here’s what I wore for the seminar.

What I wore:
Tank Top: Uniqlo
Vest: Conus
Jeans: Lee
Oxfords: Parisian
Bag: Jade Duck
Earrings: Mom’s Gift
Necklace: Fashion Convict

I obviously played safe on this outfit by using a bag, belt (not shown in the photo) and shoes with the same color. Conventional fashion states that we have to stick on such unspoken rule; but of course in the modern times, we can do whatever we want in the name of style just as long as the alterations won’t make us look terrible.

My mother used to own that Jade Duck bag I used. She got fed up with it so she kept it. When I saw it from its hiding place in our cabinet, I gave it an immediate fancy. It still looks nice even after a long time. I consider it a true vintage item. Mom said, it was one of her valuable things back then because it’s quite expensive.

I’ve had that Uniqlo tank top in my wardrobe since last year; but I couldn’t make up my mind on what to pair it with, so I decided to just wait for the right partner for it. When my Mom bought me this vest, I didn’t have any second thoughts of putting it together with my white tank. Do you think I’ve made the right choice lovelies?

Now, let’s talk about my accessories and my shoes. I got that two-toned earrings from my Mom as a giveaway for her 50th birthday two years ago. About my feather necklace, it’s one of my recent purchases. I bought it that same day from a friend who owns an online shop, and I’m so glad that it looked so fine with my casual get-up.

I’m no closet queen when it comes to my enthusiasm for oxfords/brogues. I love them because they make any get-up look edgy and androgynous. Mine are from Parisian (exclusively at SM). I love it that SM sells social statements that are stylish and chic, yet affordable and durable. Parisian shoes can last up to a year if worn regularly.

My dear friend Jael Magbanua did my make-up as usual. She said it’s hard to apply cosmetics on me, because my facial skin can easily absorb them. Because of that, the highlights of my smokey eyes weren’t emphasized in the pictures. I don’t know if it’s because of the camera or what.

I wasn’t able to check what brands she used, but I remember her spreading Etude BB Cream (that smells like rosemary) all over my face. I used my L’Oreal Invincible Kiss Proof for my lips.  I don’t know what shade of pink it belongs. I love this lip color a lot because it’s matte. I hate sheen.

Next time, I want her to try the Adriana Lima look on me. She found a 4-minute tutorial about it on YouTube. It already has million plus hits. When I watched it, I was totally in awe. That Thai girl did a great job. Just type “Me as Adriana Lima” or “Me as Scarlet Johansson” in the search tab.

Thanks Cyndi Aguzar for taking these shots. She used her AgphaPhoto SELECTA 14 camera. I hope our elemental foes won’t disturb us again in our next photo shoot. We freaked out a bit that time because of something creepy I don’t want to share. That’s it for today’s Child’s Play episode. ‘Til my next Nymph-ing moments, dolls!

New Arrivals at Sneaker Club

Located at Level 2 Abreeza Mall

In my usual casual days at school, I mainly seek for the comforts of flats and sneakers to help me move about easily. I've always loved flats because they make me feel utterly comfortable since I love strutting, and heels don't make me feel that way. You see, UP Mindanao is a place that requires its students to don a laid-back ensemble, and athletic footwear are definitely perfect for it. If you don't want to feel free and relaxed while catching up for the next UP Ikot ride, then you should consider fitting in a comfy pair.

New Balance

Nike Sportswear

Nike Sportswear

Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 for Men

Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 for Women

Those pairs from Nike totally grabbed my attention, not just because of the NEW ARRIVALS in ALL CAPS, but also because of the style. I love the Nike sneaker in Green most especially. Another brand that caught me was Onitsuka Tiger. I'm not familiar with the brand at all, but when I Googled it, I gave it an instant liking. I love its striped Mexico 66 Line, which is actually the most famous brand of Onitsuka Tiger shoes. Good thing Sneaker Club have them. If I win this contest, I'd pick Onitsuka Tiger for sure!

To my fellow UP Mindanao students and to everyone reading my blog, I highly recommend this newest fashion lifestyle shop located at the 2nd Level of Abreeza Ayala Mall -- SNEAKER CLUB. I was surprised to know that it's the only store in Davao City that carries Onitsuka Tiger. Not only that, you can also choose from different brands like Adidas, New Balance, Nike Sportswear and VANS. What are you waiting for, head on to Sneaker Club and grab a pair this instant!

Killer Shoes

Before I hit the sack, let me just share you what dropped my jaw tonight -- Alexander McQueen's killer shoes. They scream fierce, I have to say. It's just that I can't imagine myself on them. They're way beyond my character. I was loitering at Polyvore's site, and saw the link to McQueen's expensive fashion collections. No wonder about that cause AMQ is owned by the Gucci Group. I also searched for its Facebook Page, and there I found these ferocious shoe finds. I have seen some of his designs being worn by Laureen Uy, but I never knew about his shoe collection. Now that I've seen it, I'm truly in awe. I just have to look at it, cause I know I can never afford it. Well, who knows right? Check these out, fellas!

Alexander McQueen's style are Avant-garde, Eccentric/Whimsical, Especially Detailed, High Fashion, Red Carpet. That explain why it's really costly. I've read irom some articles that Lady Gaga used Alexander McQueen shoes in one of her music videos. I guess the superstar have really seen her unique fashion sense from AMQ's one of a kind shoe line. What more can I say about these shoes? They look painful, but I think it's worth it. Let me share you this passage that the celebrated designer said in Harper's Bazaare, "I'm interested in designing for posterity. People who buy McQueen are going to hand the clothes down to their children, and that's very rare today."

According to New York Fashion Magazine, McQueen was found dead in his London apartment in February 2010, and the cause of death was suicide. May he rest in peace.
